These low carb mozzarella sticks are one of my favorite low carb snack or appetizer for entertaining these days. We put a side of our low carb pizza sauce next to it and it is ALWAYS a hit. My family cannot get enough of these..

We love our fried cheese though.

These Keto Mozzarella Sticks can be made 4 different ways.

  • Air Fryer – If you’ve got yourself a handy air fryer (affiliate link) I would definitely recommend using it for these low carb cheese sticks! They won’t taste just like your traditional fried mozzarella stick but the results are still VERY delicious.
  • Oven Baked – I like this option since everyone has a oven AND some people (like me) hate dealing with frying. It is scary sometimes lol.
  • Deep Fry – If you want the WHOLE fried mozzarella stick experience this is the way to do it.
  • Pan Fry – Another ‘safer’ option verse Deep Frying like this option results are about similar to deep frying but less scary oil to deal with.

All the instructions for each way is below in our recipe card. Choose whatever is right for you.

HOW MANY NET CARBS PER LOW CARB CHEESE STICK

2 Net CarbsÂper cheese stick. I normally devour 2-3 and am satisfied. Now if you are dipping into any delicious sauces like our pizza sauce be sure to calculate that into the recipe yourself.

Ingredients

  • 8 regular cheese sticks
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. ground rosemary
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  • Unwrap the cheese sticks and set aside.

  • Crack the egg into a shallow bowl or onto a plate. Using a fork, whisk the egg until the yolk and white are well combined.

  • In a separate shallow bowl or plate, mix the almond flour, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, rosemary and garlic powder until well combined. Break apart any clumps that might be in the almond flour so you have a smooth mix.

  • Roll the cheese sticks in the egg and then in the flour mixture.

  • Roll once again in the egg and then again in the flour mixture.

  • Twice should be enough to coat the cheese stick, but if you feel it needs more, repeat.

Air Fryer Instructions

  • Place the breaded cheese sticks on a parchment lined cookie sheet and freeze completely. When frozen, place each cheese stick in the bottom of the air fryer basket in a single layer only. Cook at 370 F. for 7-12 minutes depending on your air fryer.

Oven Baked Instructions:

  • Place the breaded cheese sticks on a parchment lined cookie sheet and freeze completely. When frozen, place the cookie sheet into a preheated oven (400 F) and bake for 4-5 minutes. You may need to turn them once to brown all the way around.

Deep Fry Instructions:

  • Place the breaded cheese sticks on a parchment lined cookie sheet and freeze completely. When frozen, warm your oil to 365 F. Carefully lower the cheese sticks into at least 3 inches of oil or more for about 1 minute each.

Pan Fry Instructions:

  • Place the breaded cheese sticks on a parchment lined cookie sheet and freeze completely. When frozen, put some oil in a skillet and fry each stick, rotating at about 1 minute on each side or until they are golden brown all the way around.

    Ok, I’m not trying to be rude but what the heck! I froze them for 5 hours, followed the directions to the T and they weren’t even crispy. I even sprayed a spritz of cooking oil over the top of them after flipping them 2 times for a total of 10 mins cook time. I then broiled them for another 10 and THEY STILL WEREN’T CRISPY! I’m so sad! They tasted amazing but there was no crunch even after cooking them 4x the amount stated.

      If you are looking for that ‘fried & crispy’ texture unfortunately the only thing that is going to get you to that fried texture is going be frying or air frying. Pan frying will get you close to it too which is why we list all the options. Baking them is 100% an option and honestly what we do when making them but the results are not going to be that fresh out of the fryer crisp when you bake them. It’s more of when you take fried leftovers home and reheat them. It’s not going to be fried and crispy unless you fry it again. Hope this helps for the future.

    So tasty! I made these yesterday & didn’t freeze them long enough so some did ooze. Cooked 7 mins in my air fryer at 370. My family loved them as well & they are very picky!

    in a perfect world these may have been turned out. I wasn’t so lucky. in my opinion a waste of time and ingredients bag barely stuck to the cheese sticks the flower barely stuck to the egg and then repeating the process was even worse by the time I came to cooking them they weren’t even recognizable

    Lol! I did not fully read and see about freezing. I put them in the oven and then decide to read the comments….. oops! Oh well, the did flatten a bit but the breading stayed on and they were very tasty!

      It is best to double coat. Proceed by dipping in the egg wash, dip in the breading and repeat at least one more time. This process helps quite a bit.

      Freezing time – at least an 4 hours would be my recommendation but overnight is ideal as you do want them completely frozen.

    I”m not sure what happened, but when I made them all the cheese went out the bottom of the basket and oozed into the bottom pan leaving me with breading in the basket and cheese in the pan underneath. I did let them freeze first.

          My experience is the mozzarella cheese sticks (the ones that are called string cheese) work the best. That is as least what we used at least.

    Very delish! I do have to say I did not get to freeze them like the recipe asked for, but again they still come out amazing! I also had to redo another portion of the breading to complete my 8 cheese sticks, so I am not sure where I messed up on that part. Other than that the recipe was easy and to the tee. Thanks for this recipe!
