This is a new go to dish that my husband and I love. Low carb sweet & spicy Asian green beans only take 10 minutes to make and 4 ingredients! Add some chicken and cauliflower rice for a complete meal or eat it as a side dish. I also like it for a quick low carb lunch. Only 5.5g net carbs per serving.

Once this past summer, my sister Laurie had us over and made these green beans and I just loved them. She used some type of garlic chili oil from an Asian grocery store along with a few other ingredients. Well I took a picture of the paste but had such a hard time finding it.

Finally last month I found a similar looking garlic chili oil and came up with these low carb sweet & spicy Asian green beans.I’ve made them a few times in the last few week because we liked them so much. These green beans only take 10 minutes and 4 ingredients and each serving is only 5.5g net carbs! That is a triple win for me.

What Are The Carbs In Green Beans?

All vegetables are going to have carbs but they also have fiber. Since we are interested in net carbs (total carbs – fiber) on a low carb diet, many vegetables are considered low carb.

So ¾ cup of fresh green beans are roughly 25 calories, 6g carbs and 3g fiber. So the net carbs are only 3g which I think is pretty good. (Carbs in green beans source.) While green beans do have carbs, they are also full of fiber so in my opinion they are low carb and low calorie!

Spicy Asian Green Beans Ingredients

The most important ingredient in this recipe is the garlic chili oil. Below is the brand that I used. I cannot find it on Amazon but this brand looks comparable. I would suggest just going to an Asian grocery store and look for ground chili & garlic oil. Not garlic and chili sauce, but oil. It should only cost a few dollars and you will get a lot of servings out of it.

If you can’t find it you can always use this garlic chili sauce which is usually available at bigger grocery stores or possibly Walmart. However it’s a sauce and not the oil so it won’t be exactly the same.

Also the Swerve Brown Sugar Sweetener is also important if you are making this low carb. Again you can find it on Amazon or in some grocery stores.

Making This Simple Green Bean Recipe

This dish should only take you 10 minutes start to finish. I precook the green beans in the microwave to shorten the time but you can cook them right in the pan. However it will take longer.

  • First cook the green beans in the microwave for 4 minutes.
  • While they are cooking get out a large saute pan and add the Swerve Brown sugar, chili garlic oil and soy sauce.
  • Whisk on a medium low heat until the brown sugar dissolves.
  • Then add the cooked green beans, mix and cover with a lid.
  • Cook for 3 minutes more and you are done!

By the way I love this microwave steamer for precooking vegetables. This really saves time when sautéing or roasting vegetables.

What To Serve With These Green Beans?

We ate these as a side dish but you could eat them for your main dish. Just add some cooked chicken, beef or shrimp for a stir fry dinner. You could also eat it with cauliflower rice and if you don’t care about carbs it goes great with regular rice.

Well I hope you enjoy these as much as we did. I know it’s a bit of a pain to get the chili & garlic oil but trust me it is delicious and you will use it often. Also a little goes along way. I honestly could eat any vegetable prepared like this!

Ingredients

  • 1lbgreen beans ( or 4 cups whole fresh green beans)
  • 1tablespoongarlic chili oil
  • 2tablespoonsSwerve Brown Sugar Sweetener
  • 3tablespoonssoy sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook green beans in the microwave for 4 minutes.

  2. In the meantime add the rest of the ingrediemts in a saute pan. Whisk them together and let them heat up to dissolve the brown sugar.

  3. Add the cooked green beans, mix and then cover with a lid.

  4. Cook for 3 minutes more or until it reaches your desired tenderness. Serve immediately.
