Séamus Power's quest for PGA Tour card faces a setback after a challenging final round.
It's a golfer's reality: one bad round can significantly impact a tournament, and for Séamus Power, that reality hit hard at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico. Despite a valiant effort, his final round of 70, two-under par, wasn't enough to propel him to the top. This performance left him 12 shots behind the eventual winner, Ben Griffin, finishing the tournament at 17-under par.
Power's journey at Cabo San Lucas was a rollercoaster. After a promising third-round score of 67, hopes were high for a top-10 finish and crucial FedEx Cup points. He started strong with a birdie on the first hole, but misfortune struck at the fourth, leading to a double-bogey six. He managed to recover with three more birdies, ultimately tying for 27th place.
But here's where it gets critical: Power is currently ranked 135th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings. Only the top 100 players at the season's end secure full status for the following year. His performance in Mexico is projected to lift him to 133rd, leaving him with only two tournaments to climb into the top 100: the Butterfield Bermuda Championship (an event he's previously won) and the RSM Classic.
Meanwhile, Ben Griffin celebrated his breakout season with a stunning final round of 63, nine-under-par, securing his third win of 2025. Griffin's consistency throughout the week was evident, but he began the day two shots behind Garrick Higgo of South Africa. A series of five consecutive birdies around the turn propelled him to victory, finishing two shots ahead of Sami Valimaki of Finland and Chad Ramey.
